A LEVEL

 

Advanced Levels or A-Levels are internationally recognised qualifications for students aged 16 or older.  They provide the perfect preparation and a solid foundation for further study at top universities in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the United States or Canada.

Students at Chadsworth Sixth Form College can choose three A Levels from the following options (subject to demand):

 

 

Mathematics – the study of mathematics and mathematical processes, helping students to develop the ability to reason logically and construct mathematical proofs. To understand coherence and progression in mathematics and how different areas of mathematics can be connected.

Further Mathematics: Further Mathematics is designed to reward students for demonstrating the ability to provide responses that draw together different areas of their knowledge, skills and understanding from across the full course of study for the AS Further Mathematics qualification and also from across the AS Mathematics qualification. Problem solving, proof and mathematical modelling will be assessed in further mathematics in the context of the wider knowledge which students taking A Level Further Mathematics will have studied (to be taken in conjunction with Mathematics).

Economics – providing students the awareness of trends in the global economy, researching developed and developing economies, including a focus on contemporary issues.

Business – covers the interrelated nature of business using models, theories and techniques to support analysis of contemporary topics such as technology, ethics and globalisation.

English Language – introduces advanced language study and develops a student’s ability to write for a variety of audiences and purposes. Students discover linguistic frameworks and how these can be used to analyse and interpret language.

English Literature – the study of British and international authors from the past and present to discover and appreciate their works, poetry and prose.

gives a foundation in the fundamental areas of biology, such as cells, biological molecules, organisms in their environment, genetic information, energy transfers, genetics, populations and ecosystems, gene expression.

Physics – study of the laws, theories and models of physics and an exploration of their practical applications, particles and radiation, waves, mechanics and materials, electricity, nuclear and astrophysics, electronics. Studying A-level physics  doesn’t restrict your options, it expands them. As well as being required for many careers in science and engineering, the skills and knowledge that you can develop by studying physics ;keeps the door open to doing just about everything else.

Chemistry – Topics cover physical, organic and inorganic chemistry and inspiring students to think as scientists

Geography – the study of geography leads to a wealth of study and career opportunities and includes health, human rights, migration, physical and human geography.

History – studies the most popular historical periods and themes with an international focus.

Spanish – studies the spoken and written language, social issues, trends, politics and culture of Spain and some of the main Spanish-speaking countries; The course has been developed to inspire all students who have an appreciation of the language, literature, film and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. It is a motivating course of study that will enable the students to develop an advanced level knowledge and understanding of the Spanish language, the culture of Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries, as well as practical and valuable language and transferable study skills. It will  help to prepare students for higher education and enhance their employability profile.

International Advanced Level in Information Technology – The course includes hardware and software, networks, the online environment, IT systems, data and databases, wider issues, HTML, CSS, Javascript, and designing web pages.  Students learn the concepts of information technology, to apply knowledge and understanding of the concepts of information technology, analyse and evaluate information technology problems and use analysis and evaluation to design solutions.
